It adumbrates on forensic investigation vis-à-vis computer generated evidence and concludes that section 84 is inadequate to realise the objective of amending that aspect of the Evidence Act it argues that the personnel (the police investigators, the lawyers and the judges) must be adequately trained. Thus, this paper examines the adequacy of Section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011 which has to do with computer generated documents and reviewed the amended aspects by the Legislature. This shows that lawyers and police investigators must come to terms with technology and its effect on their activities. #SAMPLE DIGITAL FORENSICS REPORT HOW TO#Lawyers have had to rethink what a 'document' is and how to go about 'disclosure of electronics documents, read emails in trials when their content is buried on a page full of disclaimers. Mobile phones leave their own traces in terms of calls (stored in computers at the offices of the GSM Network operators and sometimes in the cloud) and in terms of being able to show their own physical whereabouts. Computers have to be searched for documents while their hard disks must be investigated to find those traces. Computers have capacity to store all sort of documents and this leaves much 'tell-tales traces'. In the last 15 years, computers and other electronics have penetrated into our commercial and domestic life and this has had tremendous impact and practicalities to litigation and legal practice in Nigeria. In view of this, this research recommended inter alia, for proper training of law enforcement agencies in terms of how crimes and crime scenes are handled and also the establishment of sophisticated forensic labs where evidence and accused persons can be taken to in order to determine guilt or innocence in order to ease the establishment of evidence before law enforcement agencies in Nigeria. In the course of this research, it was found that establishing certain types of evidence such as fingerprint impressions and DNA, against accused persons was seriously hindered due to the absence of forensic labs and this hinder the conviction of such persons. ![]() The sources of information relied upon here are relevant books, articles in journal publications, internet materials, statutes and judicial authorities. The justification for this research arose out of the alarming rate crimes are constantly committed and the apparent difficulty faced by agencies of the criminal justice system while trying to curb the occurrence of such crimes. Such components include, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) analysis, Fingerprint analysis, Polygraph test, Ballistics, Forensic anthropology, Forensic pathology and Computer forensics. This research aimed at assessing the application and impact of forensic science in the Nigerian criminal justice system by making reference to certain components of forensics that are relevant to the criminal justice system. ![]()
